History - Strawberries as we know, it dates as far as the 16th century. Already then the fruits produced by the strawberry plant were recognized for its flavor and brilliant appearance. Since the earliest times strawberries were used in breads, as dried supplement to meat and even for making wines. These succulent fruits is what inspired the Van Heerdens 14 years ago to venture into uncharted territory by starting to cultivate strawberries in what was then still known as the Northern Transvaal. The farm’s production expanded from a couple of punnets per day that were sold on the fresh produced market to up 300 crates per day during peak season which is sold to one of the leading supermarket groups in the country. read more.
